I am a Professor of Economics at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Economics and the Center for Economic Behavior and Inequality (CEBI). I am particularly interested in how health shapes our economies. I believe we need to understand how micro-level behaviors translate into macro-level structures—this way, we as researchers can help guide our countries in a healthier direction. Academically, we must go beyond studying associations and identify the underlying mechanisms that shape the outcomes we seek to understand. This focus has led my research toward studying behaviors, inequalities, and opportunities in health care. My work brings together health, labor, and public economics and, importantly, integrates public health and medical sciences.

Current research: Since 2020 our team has worked intensely on the research project “Skill formation in the labor market for physicians“. In 2022 we started research agenda on “The Role of Networks in shaping Health Inequality“. We are now, 2024, developing the project “The Role of Preferences and Beliefs in Shaping Physician Careers“.
